Measuring and modelling in hydrology
The module “Hydrological Measurement” starts with an introduction of the current measuring instruments and methods for hydrometeorological parameters (precipitation, evaporation, soil moisture). The different kinds of water level and flow measuring devices are presented in more detail. Based on the physical measuring principles, the measuring methods and their application limits are explained. The students learns the correct interpretation of measurement data and gets an insight into the achievable accuracies on self-made measurements in natural and artificial waters.
Elements of the module are:
- Overview and function of current measuring instruments and methods for hydrometeorological parameters (climate, precipitation, evaporation, soil moisture),
- Water level and discharge measurements in natural and artificial water bodies,
- Verification, evaluation and interpretation of measurements.
At a first information date, interested students are given an overview of the contents and requirements of the course. This date takes place during the first two weeks of lectures (s. Dates, Regulations, place of the Location). Three dates will be fixed in the course period. On two other dates will be carried field exercises (waterflow measurements).
A presentation (written elaboration and presentation) examines the contents and the results of the measurement exercises
